An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure performed by an endodontist to treat an infection at the tip of a tooth’s root. During the procedure, the gum is gently lifted to expose the bone and root. The infected or inflamed tissue is removed along with the very end of the root. A small filling is then placed to seal the root canal, and the gum is stitched back in place. As healing occurs, the surrounding bone regenerates, helping to preserve the tooth.
