Invisalign dental braces are an option that allows you to correct your smile with minimal change to your appearance. We are all familiar with the look of metal braces that are the traditional way to improve your teeth’s alignment and your smile. They are normally associated with teen patients and tended to be used less by adults that have waited to address their teeth and smile.  Metal braces work well in adjusting teeth but normally pose challenges for good dental hygiene and come with the considerable change to your appearance while the braces are worn.

The clear aligners used with Invisalign come with many benefits for the patient. Invisalign aligners can be easily removed whenever eating and for teeth cleaning after. This adds a significant difference when compared to the difficulty of good dental hygiene and cleaning associated with metal braces. Invisalign aligners allow comparable teeth correction similar to metal braces but with a less visible product appearance. A series of clear aligners are used to progressively move the teeth to their new desired location. The clear design and ease of removing and inserting the aligners produces a less stressful option over traditional braces. Invisalign is also a more comfortable fit that metal braces. The tight fit and tension with wires used with traditional brackets on the teeth makes for a more difficult orthodontic treatment. The metal fixtures used also can produce irritation and cuts in the gum line and cheek area. Invisalign aligners also have less need for dental office visits to fix broken metal fixtures and continual adjustments. The design and use of Invisalign allows a series of aligners to progressively correct and move the teeth with just changing out aligner to the next one in the set.

So, if you are looking for a low maintenance and less noticeable way to improve your smile then you may want to consider Invisalign braces to do the job.

Summer is the time of the year that kids are out of school, parents are looking for a break from work and activities abound. It is important to continue to maintain your good dental habits to keep your teeth clean and healthy. When traveling, you want to bring along all the oral care items that you use in a normal day. Complementary dental items at hotels and resorts are nice to receive but may not have the same quality or results of the dental items you use daily at home. During summer you may be more active with outside activities or day trips and want to make sure you don’t miss proper oral care after eating or having drinks with sugar. Be prepared to have all the oral care items to bring along with you.

A good toothbrush and a travel case for the brush is the first item to consider. Make sure the toothbrush is ADA approved and has bristles that match you brush at home. Keeping the brush in a travel case will help in keeping it clean and sanitary. Fluoride toothpaste helps provide proper teeth cleaning as well as protection against any possible damage to your teeth. Flossing is also an important activity that should be done after eating to keep clean the areas between the teeth. Floss also comes in many various packages to make it easy to bring along with you.

So, as you become more active and are away from home more during summer, put together a dental travel bag with the items needed to continue your good oral care. Being prepared will make it easier to remember and use all the tools needed to keep your teeth looking and feeling great.

If you’ve been in an accident or suffered a sports injury, you may have fallen and hit your mouth in the process, chipping a tooth.  You might have a tooth that is more prone to being chipped because of a cavity.  Decay can weaken the tooth structure, causing you to chip a tooth when you bite into something hard, or easily chip a tooth due to any pressure.  If you have chipped a tooth, you should make an appointment with a dentist right away.  Our Cary dental office excels at getting you in quickly to be seen by a skilled dentist who is an expert in dental emergencies and chipped teeth.

Zen Triangle Dentistry can provide you with multiple options to repair the chipped tooth, including dental bonding, restorations and veneers.  If you have suffered only a minor chip in your tooth enamel, your chipped tooth could possibly be fixed in one visit by reshaping and polishing the surface of the tooth.  Dental bonding may be able to replace the fractured tooth if you have the piece of tooth which has been lost.  The dentist could otherwise use a composite resin and dental bonding to restore the chipped tooth.   Tooth colored resins called composites are a more affordable option.  Porcelain veneers are possibly the most aesthetically pleasing option to repair a chipped tooth.

In the most severe cases, where a nerve has been exposed as a result of the trauma, you may be experiencing sensitivity to hot and cold, and intense pain.  This situation could necessitate a root canal to remove damaged pulp from the tooth. Regardless of which option you choose, Zen Triangle Dentistry will ensure that you are well-informed when you make your decision, and that the results are beautiful.

Spring is the time of the year for new beginnings. The weather is warmer, the days are longer, and all things seem possible. Maybe it’s time to consider a brand-new smile. Now can be the time to restore your smile and feel confident about your appearance. Zen Triangle Dentistry is here to assist in helping you find that new smile for spring.

Preventative and Restorative dentistry can both play a part in having a better smile. There are steps you can take that are effective in regard to improving your teeth and their appearance. Regular teeth brushing and flossing are an important step you can take. Brushing will help reduce plaque build-up and prevent cavities when done regularly. Flossing will assist in these as well but also help with the prevention of any possible gum disease.

Dental exams and x-rays are another preventative measure to catch any possible dental problems early and keep your teeth clean and looking great. Our dentist and staff will inspect for any cavities or possible areas of concern and suggest any suitable treatments. Cosmetic and restorative dental procedures could also help in improving your smile. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular treatments that helps with reversing yellow and stained teeth. Zen Triangle Dentistry offers both Zoom and Kor teeth whitening products. Each has their own strengths and our dentist can recommend which will work best for you. Other cosmetic treatments can be crowns and bridges, porcelain veneers, dental implants and corrective teeth straightening.

The office of Zen Triangle Dentistry in Cary NC is here to help with your desire to spring into a brand-new smile.

Whether you are in need of emergency dental care or looking for a dental office, there are things to consider when choosing a new dentist. Location may be an important part of your decision. Make sure they have flexible scheduling that will fit your schedule and have availability for same day dental emergencies. You also want to feel comfortable with the dentist and their staff and their overall dental philosophies.

You may want to see if the dentist has initial consultations available to discuss you and your family dental needs and concerns. See if they offer general dentistry services as well as restorative and preventative dental care. Finding a dental practice that accepts your dental insurance or offers flexible noninsurance options is important. Routine dental visits and future dentistry need should be considered.

Getting in to see your dentist once every six months is an easy habit to get into.  Usually these visits will be of nearly no cost to you if you have dental insurance.  And the benefit far outweighs any cost.  If it’s been awhile since your last dental exam or check-up, we understand.  We can help you get back on track getting regular cleanings, and taking X-rays to see where you are now.

Teeth cleanings are a quick and easy way to feel better about your smile.  Regular teeth cleanings prevent plaque build-up, tooth decay, cavities, and a whole host of other problems!  While cleaning your teeth, a skilled dental hygienist will examine each individual tooth for disease or damage.  The hygienist will also check your gums for any disease.  Dental x-rays may be taken with this scheduled dental exam. After the exam and cleaning, your teeth will be flossed.  Finally, your teeth will be polished and fluoride treatments may be given to keep your teeth protected.

Regular teeth cleanings and dental exams are the strongest predictor of excellent oral health.  If you care about your health, regular dental check-ups are vital.  Teeth cleanings and dental exams just twice a year go a long way to preventing gum disease and cavities.  Make sure that you schedule your dental exam soon to get you on the road to excellent oral health.

Gum disease is often without pain, so you may not even be aware that you have it. If you have not been receiving regular dental checkups, there is a strong possibility that periodontal disease could exist and will progress further until the effects are irreversible. The keys to preventing periodontal disease are diagnosis and treatment. Symptoms of periodontal/gum disease may be difficult to spot.  Because gum disease is generally painless, you need to be on the lookout for possible signs of periodontal disease.

With the first stage of periodontal disease you will notice your gums bleeding easily from flossing and brushing. Your gum tissue is inflamed as a result of the bacteria in the plaque. In the early stages, this is a very treatable disease. You have not lost any gum tissue. The second stage of periodontal disease is much more serious.  Not all gingivitis will progress to periodontitis, but it certainly can happen without preventative dental treatments.   When periodontitis happens, your gums become infected, leading to bleeding gums, pus pockets and your gums recede; leading ultimately to loose teeth that may fall out or need to be pulled by your dentist.

Treatment options vary depending on the severity of the gum disease.  Non-surgical deep cleaning/ root planning/ scaling involves getting deep into the gum pockets to eradicate bacteria. During this deep cleaning local anesthetic may be used to ensure your complete comfort through this periodontal treatment. The tartar is gently scaled away from your teeth. Stains and mineral deposits are removed. Plaque is eliminated as the dentist targets the affected tissue, by scaling the root of the tooth.  Prescribing of an antibiotic to fight the bacteria at the source of your periodontal disease. If this is the chosen treatment, an antibiotic would be placed inside the gum pockets, at the site of the infection.

Sometimes a tooth extraction is necessary due to decay that has destroyed the tooth, and the tooth cannot be saved.  Other times a tooth extraction is needed due to an accident. Accidents can cause teeth to become chipped, cracked, or broken.  In some cases, the best way to deal with these damaged teeth is a tooth extraction by a dentist with experience to ensure that you receive excellent care.

As unfortunate as it is, when you realize a tooth extraction is necessary, it is essential that you deal with the problem as swiftly as possible. Having the procedure done will allow you to get back to your normal routines pain-free!  It is also important to locate a dentist your trust to set your mind at ease.

It is unfortunate that cavities or an accident would necessitate a tooth extraction.  But taking care of it with qualified dentist is in your best interests.  In the past, the necessity of a tooth extraction meant you had limited treatments after the procedure. With the advances in dentistry, you now have many options after a tooth extraction.  Dental implants provide a permanent solution to replace a lost tooth. Cosmetic and restorative dentistry can elevate your oral health and make your smile beautiful again.
